Macedon, Koinon Æ25. Time of Gordian III AD 238-244. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Diademed head of Alexander III right / Alexander on Bukephalos right. SNG Copenhagen 1372. 10.69g, 25mm, 7h.

Good Very Fine.

As one of his chargers, Bukephalos served Alexander in numerous battles. The value which Alexander placed on Bukephalos emulated his hero and supposed ancestor Achilles, who claimed that his horses were 'known to excel all others - for they are immortal'.
